Helping parents to bond with their babies and be the parents they want to be…
Becoming pregnant or the arrival of a baby often triggers in parents lots of powerful feelings that are sometimes difficult to manage and can get in the way of bonding with their baby.
Some of those powerful feelings can be linked to a traumatic birth, an early separation, parents’ own difficult childhood, past trauma, a bereavement… They can also be exacerbated by the baby’s difficulties in feeding, sleeping and being soothed.
In exploring some of the issues behind those powerful feelings in a calm and safe space, I support parents to understand why they feel the way they do. I also help them to make sense of their baby’s needs and behaviour and to develop news ways of communication so they can build a secure and loving relationship with their baby. This is important not only for the baby’s long-term healthy emotional, physical and cognitive development but also for the parents and rest of the family’s well-being.
So if you are feeling that you are not bonding with your baby the way you thought you would, or be the parents you want to be, then contact me by email to set up an initial consultation.
I have a clinic outside Honiton (East Devon), in a very peaceful and easily accessible location with plenty of space to park. I also have a very nice clinic room in Exeter or alternatively we can talk on Zoom.
